Will of Sheba Devors, Blount County, Alabama

In the name of God Amen....I Sheba Devors being of sound mind and disposing memory but weak in body and conscious that all must die do make and declare this my last will and testament hereby revoking all others....

First, I commend my soul to a mercifull and kind God trusting in the merits of Christ my blessed Redeemer for my eternal salvation. My body I wish to be buried decently near the side of my dear departed husband....

Secondly, Of the worldy good moneys and debits which I now own or may be entitled to at my death after paying my funeral expenses and all expences of executing this my last will and testatment I give and bequeath to my beloved Son in Law George D. Staton Jr. two promisory notes each for the sum of two hundred Dollars made by my said Son in Law George D. Staton, Jr. each dated on the 15th day of December, 1848 payable in specie with a seal affixed and due one of them Three years after the date thereof and the other Four years after the date thereof. And to my beloved Daughter Nancy Staton Wife of said George D. Staton Jr. I give and bequeath the ballance of my property and effects of every kind and moneys and choses in action consisting of one roan horse Two bedsteads beds and furniture the table one chest and some other small items of household & kitchen furniture and wearing apparell and whet money I may have on hand at my death together with two notes each for one hundred and twenty five Dollars made by Hiram Dickerson both dated on the 12th day of April 1851 and one due by the 25th of Decr 1852 and the other due by the 25th day of Dec. 1853 & a small account for ten Dollars and seventy five cents due from Levi Foster to the sole and separate use of my said Daughter Nancy Staton which said property moneys, notes, and accounts I have given as above to my said Daughter and Son in Law because of their kind treatment to me whilst I have lived woth them and especially during my last long and painful affliction....

My Son Wilson B. Deaver and Daughter Eliza Staton and Elizabeth Cloudis and my Grandchildren Julian Ann Elizabeth Keeler & Eliza Jane Keeler are kindly remembered by me but as they have not been with me to help me during my affliction and are comfortably provided for, I desire and think it right to give what property and money I may have at my death as above to my Daughter Nancy & my son in Law George D. Staton Jr. and I hereby appoint my said son in Law George D. Staton Jr my sole Executor of this my last will & Testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto caused to be fixed my name and seal & have made my mark hereto bieng unable to write on the thirty first day of October A D 1851.
