A.W. CARSON History of Arizona, 1930, pg 314 The leading photographer in northern Arizona is A.W. Carson of Flagstaff, where he has built up a large business and gained a splendid reputation for the unusual character and superior quality of his work. He was born in Alvarado, Texas on the 15th day of March 1875, and is a son of A.P. and Melissa (Richardson) Carson, both of whom are deceased. He received a public school education and in 1897, in California, he turned his attention to photography, in which he has made steady advancement during the subsequent years until today he is regarded as an artist, his work having attracted attention in art circles. He went from California to the Indian territory, where he remained for several years and then on October 18, 1907 he located in Douglas, Arizona where he spent twelve years. He then established a studio in Bisbee where he remained one year, followed by a year in traveling. In November 1921 Mr. Carson came to Flagstaff and opened a studio, in the conducting of which he has met with outstanding success. He is not excelled anywhere in his portrait work, while his scenic work has attracted much attention and received the highest praise. On March 20, 1904 in Lampassas, Texas Mr. Carson was united in marriage to Miss Myrtle Langford and they are the parents of two sons, Carl, born on February 7, 1905 and connected with a wholesale house in Waco, Texas and Kermit, born on February 7, 1909, who is assisting his father in Flagstaff.
