Welcome!
I'm Colleen, your new Unknown County Coordinator. This site is
being recreated, so please excuse the dust.
All of us have at least one ancestor of whom we have only
sketchy information. Hopefully
this site can provide some help to aid in your search for your
elusive ancestors. You should not expect to find
people listed in any specific town or county on this site,
although occasionally it may happen.

Off the Top
Colorado has two defunct counties. Greenwood
County was formed from part of Huerfano County and the
Arapahoe and Cheyenne Reserve. Platte was
abolished in 1874 and Bent and Elbert counties created
from it. Platte County was formed in 1872 from Weld
County. In 1874 Platte was abolished and its
territory return to Weld County
It
is highly recommended that you post your Colorado genealogy questions on this
site's Queries Forum as well as the state's email discussion list
which covers the
entire state, and there are many helpful people
subscribed to it. Don't get discouraged if you don't
receive an answer right away. It could be that no one has the
answer at that time, or perhaps they are caught up in a
busy life. You will have to subscribe in order to post.
Subscription information to the list is provided in the
Communicate
section of this site. On the same page
you'll also find information about message boards, an extremely helpful tool. You will find a search
engine for this site in the Research Center.
However, if you'll click on the Search Engines link
you'll be taken to a page full of engines to genealogy sites that may have help
for you.

Would you
like to host a COGenWeb site? Have a look at our
counties page
and see what's open. Then contact our State
Coordinator,
Gail Meyer Kilgore,
or
me, the Assistant State Coordinator.
If the county you wish to host is already taken, we keep a waiting list you can
be added you to.
