The Centennial State Chapter of the DAR has a listing and some photos of the Sligo Cemetery. You can go here to see them.

I received the following request from Robert Rosin on 28 Jun 2010. If anyone can help him, please send him an email at: furcifer10@yahoo.com

The land that it is on, is public and owned by the Forest Service (Pawnee National Grasslands). There is complete public access to the cemetery. With that said, only the land on the east, and south are leased from the USFS, anything to the west of the USFS sign is private. All land on the north side of the Road 112 is also private.

Now comes my other interest.

I am trying to work with the USFS to preserve the information that is in the cemetery, and replace the plastic markers with more permanent markers, but am having a few issues. First, there used to be a Sligo Cemetery Society (est 1964), but it doesn't seem to be active any longer; so I am having to prove to USFS that it is dissolved. Also many of the plastic markers are losing their information so ANY older records then the info on your site is needed. If you can post a request for any photos or a full listing it would be wonderful, especially from the late 1970s -the early 1980s when the plastic markers had the best information. My intention is to create a "friends of Sligo Cemetery," and ask for a grant from the government to place permanent granite markers to replace the plastic markers that are currently there. Since the ranch is for sale, and will be a little heartbreaking to go out after the sale, and due to the distance, if I can find another organization that would take this over in a few years it would be wonderful.

Thank you for any information you may have,
Robert Rosin

Hello Pauli,

As a quick update. Louanne Timm from the Pawnee Historical Society has been working with the USFS to get a permit to preserve the Sligo Cemetery. If anyone has additional information to help with this I would forward them on to her. They have done a fundraiser earlier this year to get a new sign for the site.

Hope this helps
Robert
