Minnie Twiss

and Friends
In the photo are left to right, Dora Tozier, Minnie Louisa (Twiss) Davis and Harry Tozier. The Tozier family were good friends of George and Minnie (Twiss) Davis. I really have no idea where this photo was taken or when it was taken. However, I know that my great Uncle George took the photo. George loved to take photos.

A little bit of history on George Clarence Davis and Minnie Louisa Twiss. George was born, 1 April 1888 in Otsego Township, Steuben County, Indiana and died, 11 July 1973 in Angola, Indiana. His parents were, Frank Yates and Harriet Elizabeth (Schmeiser) Davis. Minnie Louisa Twiss was born, 14 February 1883 in Curtis, Frontier County, Nebraska and died, 29 March 1922 in Boulder, Colorado. Minnie was the daughter of Jasper T. and Jennette B. Twiss. George and Minnie both, were school teachers and I am sure that is how they met. After Minnie's death in 1922, George moved back to Indiana and married a cousin to Minnie, Jeanette Florance Blunk. Jeanette was a school teacher as well. From what I have been told by my father and aunt, Minnie died some 20 days after giving birth to their only child. The child was stillborn.

Minnie Twiss is the woman on the cover of the School District 52 souvenir above.

G.C. Davis

George Clarence Davis, husband of Minnie Louisa Twiss. The photo had to have been taken around Maywood, Nebraska as it looks like the western Nebraska I have been through. I am assuming the photo was taken at Minnie's parents home. In the background you can see an eldery man on the right, I believe this is Minnie's father, Jasper T. Twiss. I am sure that Minnie was running the camera. When was the photo taken? I don't know, but from the age of the car, it must have been in the late "teens" or very early 1920s.

Followup received on 25 March 2001:

Back a few weeks ago when I had sent you a photo of my great uncle, George Clarence Davis, you had asked me if I knew the numbers on the house that he was in front of. I asked my aunt who has the original picture if I could borrow it for better examination. Today while at breakfast she showed me the original and I must say that it is not really any better. However, on the back my great uncle had written the following:

"3038, 9th Mrs Twiss on the porch"

I had assumed the eldery person in the photo was Jasper Twiss instead of his wife, Jeanette. The 3038, 9th must be the house number and street in which the house was on.
