PASSES AWAY
Death takes Clallam County's last survivor of
G. A. R. : Port Angeles resident 55 years.
Francis M. Wait 97 last surviving member of the Grand Army of the Republic
in Clallam County passed away early Sunday Morning in the Soldiers home at
Retsil, Wash.
Funeral services will be held from McDonald
Funeral home here Wednesday at 2:pm; the Reverend M. J. Perdue officiating.
Walter Akeley Post of American Legion will supply pallbearers and will conduct
graveside services at Ocean View Cemetery.
Mr. Wait is survived by two daughters, Mrs.
Lois E. Cahill and Mrs. Warren Martin and two sons. E. R. Wait and Miles Wait
all of Port Angeles. 21 grandchildren and 18 Great grandchildren.
A son of Martin Slocum Wait and Maryanne (Fox)
Wait was born in Clinton Ohio on April 16, 1843. He was married to Emily
Mansfield in Grand Traverse Michigan August 11,1867. Three of his sons born in
Old mission Michigan , Twin daughter born in Point -no -Point Washington (one
Died). A son and Daughter were born in Port Angeles.
Mr. Wait enlisted in the United States Army
from Traverse city Michigan August 9, 1862 in the 26th Michigan Regiment age of
19. He was a messenger for General MILES He was captured in 1864 Thur 1865
in 3 Prison , He was in LIBBY PRISON , BELLE ISLE, AND SALISBURY CONFEDERATE
PRISON.
He was discharged in MAY 25TH 1865 IN COLUMBUS
OHIO.
