 Welcome

Seated in northeastern Alabama is the beautiful and fertile county of Etowah.  This region lies in the southern foothills of the Appalachian Mountains astride Lookout Mountain and the Coosa River.  An array of geographic features including mountains in the northern and western part of the county with river and lakes in the southern and eastern parts are presented.  Etowah County boasts a rich history left by Creek and Cherokee Indians, Hernando De Soto, and General Andrew Jackson.

 Please Note...

I do not live in Alabama and am unable to help you with local research.

However, you might elect to  try the Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness website at http://www.raogk.org. They have volunteers who have offered to help researchers with local research in their respective counties.  Often the work is done for little to no compensation. It's likely you'll find someone in or near Etowah County that can help you.

Our Neighbors...

If you can't find your information in this county, it's always wise to investigate the surrounding ones.  Keep in mind that during the early years of our country, border changes were frequent.  In addition to mentioning our neighbors, I have placed a timeline relevant to Etowah County in the Research Center.  Hopefully, one of these two avenues will assist you in your research.
