Jeanne Strand
(August 1, 1936 - January 13, 2008)
 

MUNISING

Jeanne Strand, age 71, of 320 W. Superior Street in Munising, died unexpectedly and peacefully at her home on Sunday, January 13, 2008. She was born August 1, 1936 in Munising to the late Felix and Annette (Brebner) Boyak. Jeanne graduated from Sacred Heart School and then Wm. G. Mather High School in 1954. Following graduation, she held a clerical position with the FBI in Washington, D.C. from the fall of 1954-57. When Jeanne returned to Munising she worked at Kimberly Clark for several years, before marrying Ron Strand on October 29, 1965. They spent one year living in Flint before moving back to Munising. Jeanne worked many years as a waitress at the Red Cedar and in recent years, she was a summer employee at Horseshoe Falls. She was an active and faithful member of Sacred Heart Church, St. Joseph’s Circle, and a loyal member of the St. Anthony’s Guild. Jeanne was dedicated and worked very hard to help prepare many funeral luncheons for grieving families. Jeanne was also a proud contributor to Right to Life. She enjoyed playing all types of card games especially with the 500 Card Group, and she loved playing Bingo. Jeanne made the holidays very special for her family and friends, especially the 4th of July celebrations she would have at her home. She was very dedicated to her family and loved her grandchildren. She was a wonderful, caring, generous, and optimistic woman, and laughter was guaranteed when you spent time with Jeanne.

Jeanne is survived by her husband of forty-two years – Ron Strand; children – Chrissy (Louie) Miron of Munising, Sheryl (Larkin) Trainham, Cindy Fuque both of Alabama, and Ronald “Willy” Strand Jr., of Columbus, OH; grandchildren – Jordan, Mike, Matthew, Stephan, Nicholas, Amy Jean, and Joshua Miron, Gabbie Gallatin, and Jessica and Maddie Fuque; siblings – Mark (Carolyn) Boyak, Ann (Ed) Sowa, Karen Hamilla, Fuzzy (Deanna) Boyak, and Cathy (Tooker) Hamilla; sister-in-law – Joyce Boyak; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and good friends. She was preceded in death by parents – Felix and Annette; sister – Lorraine (Paul) Boucher; brother – Robert J. Boyak; infant brother – Joseph; and brother-in-law - Frank Hamilla.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 15, 2008, at the Bowerman Funeral Home with a Parish Vigil Service beginning at 7:00 p.m. where family and friends will have an opportunity to share stories and memories of Jeanne’s life. Father Chris Gardiner will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, January 16, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church. Interment will be at Maple Grove Cemetery. Jeanne will be escorted by her grandsons: Jordan, Mike, Matthew, and Stephan, son Willy Strand, and nephew Mark Hamilla. Honorary escorts Ruth Ann Boucher, Louise Griffith, Rosie Peters, Rachel Giles, Barb Robare, and Char Younk.
